The development and promotion of grassroots hockey is a key element of the England Hockey Board's operation. A current initiative is aimed at encouraging children to take up the sport from a very young age, and the EHB approached Affixxius to help communicate the new format, known as Quicksticks, to primary school teachers. It needed to be treated as a new sport (because of the new rules, disciplines and formats), and the EHB had to communicate such detail in a way that not only informed teachers but encouraged them about its benefits and positive impacts for children. A large amount of printed material already existed in the form of lesson plans and teaching aids, and Affixxius were asked to produce a series of videos to help clarify and explain the new initiative.
We produced a series of individual modules that served a specific purpose within the overall set of videos. For example, case study videos of individual lessons (comprising of two of the 70+ lesson plans that exist overall) were filmed on location at schools across the country. While this allowed viewers to get a feel of how a Quicksticks lesson should take shape, we also produced a number of videos that explicitly demonstrated the many new rules that had been put in place. This was achieved through: using a professional broadcast presenter to explain the detail that needed to be conveyed, filming specific scenarios during the lessons that would clarify these points, as well as producing a substantial amount of animation and graphical work to help an audience visualise certain complicated elements of the new rules and disciplines.
Thank you for you and your teams hard work. We are very happy with the videos and the course should be launching at the end of the week.
