article 2 - what to look for when commissioning a corporate video |
||||||
The most important thing to check before commissioning a corporate video is that at least one of the people you are talking to about the project is the actual person who is involved in the video making process. You will be amazed how many companies out there rely on one man, as a salesman, who sells you the video, who then calls his freelancer friend to then make the video. The concept meetings you have prior to filming commencing on your video are so incredibly important that they should not be underestimated if possible. This is your opportunity, as the client, to get every aspect of the video written down and passed onto the professionals, not the salesman. The other risk with the freelance approach is that it is invariably quite expensive. Once you have paid the salesman's mark-up on the freelancer's already high fees (and don't forget your paying per person here, so by the end of things, you could be shelling out triple the amount you need to) you'll be presented with a 'compound' cost. Always worth asking how many people you're paying... This is where corporate video production at Affixxius Productions is different. We are a fully in house team and employ the very best talent and media professionals. This means there is never any loss of information in the video making process and the quality is always there. Our guys genuinely care about the corporate videos they produce because it's both the company's and their name they are putting to it, so the quality has to be there. This also gives us so much more flexibility when it comes to cost. We already know our overheads and costs of running the business, so can fit to people's budgets with far greater flexibility. The other thing I would encourage is to get references and see some work. It may seem like an obvious thing to say, but if your having building work done on your house, you wouldn't ask a builder to start right away without checking his previous work and clients, so why not do that with a video production company. We always encourage potential new clients to check with our previous clients, it creates that trust in the client / supplier relationship that can only be enhanced by someone else's testimonial of your work. Ultimately, making a corporate video should be fun. So make sure the company you use is going to make the job as easy as possible for you and make it into an enjoyable experience.
